I’ve never been much of an embroiderier. I’ve tried my hand at it before, but it never comes out looking like I expect it to . It’s generally too flat or too slight looking. Know what I mean? So maybe I’ve decided I don’t have the patience to create something with the volume I’m looking for?
Whatever the reason, I never really like the outcome of MY embroidery. But that could all change. I’m thinking with a thicker “thing” to embroider with maybe the work would go faster, things would fill in quicker and texture would explode in an instant (see how poetic I am? Imagine exploding texture…yeah you like it too.) What could I be refering to? Silk Ribbon Embroidery.
I was initially inspired by this image from my beloved J.Crew:

Which led me to search ribbon embroidery on flickr. Take a look at what I found:

Throw pillows.
I’ve been looking at pillows a lot lately, as we’ve been “redoing” our living room. I hope to post some pics of the finished product soon. Let me temp you with the color swatches we’re using.

The top row of color would be the neutrals and then the bottom 2 rows are the 2 color families i’ll be working in all over the room. Now on to the the pillows of my dreams:

1.Umber Dove 2.Joom 3.Olive 4.Alexandra Ferguson 5.Palancahome 6.Fennelstudio 7.Rukkola 8.Nuka 9.Pillow Happy

That’s where I went for vacation last week. It was the camping I spoke of in an earlier post. All i can say is, the park was beautiful and well maintained. They helped to make my *first* camping experience a positive one (the weather on the other hand was not so helpful).
When we arrived on Thursday afternoon (about 3pm) we set up camp and ate dinner. The 8 of us devoured about 5 lbs. of ribs. In the camping crew were, myself and my brother, along with my husband and his 3 brothers, 1 sister, and mother. Friday morning was the big hike. The photos above are from said hike. You can see more on the flickr account here.
I don’t wear many t-shirts. In fact, my waredrobe is lacking in the “casual” department altogether. I think it’s part of growing up and gettign a real job. I don’t really have any place to wear casual clothing, except on the weekends, and lets face it that’s only 2 out of 7 days a week. Most of the time I feel like t-shirts aren’t worth the cost when measured against the “will I actually wear this” yard stick. But I after recently discarding [ie sending to the goodwill] a good many articles of clothing that I wasn’t into anymore/didn’t fit, I’ve found myself actually needing to purchase some t-shirts and weekend clothes. I’ve been surfing around the net and found a few I like.

I hate moving. Really I do. I feel out of sorts. I’m hoping to back on a posting schedule next week. We’re headed off to the western part of the state[Virignia] on a camping trip on Thursday so I’ll have some pictures to share that don’t involve my tornado stricken apartment.
Parasols!

I love these. Remember it’s not an umbrella! Umbrellas are for rain, parasols are for sun.
Please forgive my lack of posting. Know that is only because we are in the midst of moving this week and the next. I’ve been packing up all my sewing stuff and getting ready for the moving van next weekend!
In the mean time, please enjoy some new photos on my flickr acount from my best friend’s wedding this past weekend!
Congratulations Amanda and Jeremy!
